This pattern is dedicated to Megan Jacobson.
It was her desire (and begging) for a felt flamingo that led me to this beach party.
Size: Finished size is controlled by your yarn choice and the amount of felting. Flamingos in photo are about 12" (30cm) long and 11" (28cm) tall (bottom of body to the top of head).
Yarn Requirements: Choose a worsted weight yarn that will felt easily and firmly.
Yardage: 500 yds (457m) main color and 20 yds (18m) of black. A feathered flamingo requires about 70 - 80 yds (64 - 73 m) of eyelash.
Needles: Straight or circular in US size 10.5 (6.5mm) and short straight needles in US size 11 (8mm).
Gauge: About 13 sts to 4"(10cm) before felting.
It is not necessary to get an exact gauge, but knitting must be loose to felt properly.
