An old fashioned bonnet in two styles.
Style 1 (white) has an openwork, lace patterned band with a contrast color ribbon sewn underneath.
Style 2 (yellow) has a stockinette stitch band shown with lace appliques. Various embroidery stitches could replace appliques.

Sizes: Small and Large.
To fit approximately 0-5 (6-12) months, head size up to 17" (19").
Yarn Requirements: 155 (175) yards of a light worsted weight yarn.
Both styles: (Optional) One yard of ½" ribbon for ties.
Style 1: ½ yard of 1½" ribbon to be stitched under lace.
Style 2: Purchased appliques.
Needles: 16" (40 cm) circular and a set of double pointed needles in size 6 (4 mm), or size needed to obtain gauge.
Straight needles may be used for the first part of bonnet, which is worked in rows.
Gauge: 20 sts and 28 rows = 4" (10 cm) in stockinette stitch.
