S2017 The Spinner's Shawl by Evelyn A. Clark
Description↑
Fiber Trends Pattern S2017
Design by Evelyn A. Clark
This reversible garter stitch lace shawl celebrates Arachne from Greek mythology and Spider Woman from Hopi and Navajo legends. Ancient symbols embraced by spinners, as well as weavers, lace makers and other needle artists.
The shawl is knit from the center back neck down, and the simple Spider Lace flows into a Spider-in-a-Web border and edging. The Spider Lace repeats over 10 rows, so it is easy to memorize, and the border can be started after any multiple of the 10-row repeat, making it easy to customize size. Beads can be added to the last edging row if desired.
Blocked Size:
For Shawl with 9 repeats of Spider Lace in yarn shown: 36" (91cm) deep and 72" (183cm) across top edge.
Yarn Requirements:
For light weight mohair (13 wpi) as shown or a sport weight wool, 600 yards (549 meters). Requirements will vary with different yarns or if you work a different number of repeats.
Needles: US size 7 (4.5mm) needles. A 24" (40cm) circular is suggested.
If using a different weight of yarn, adjust your needle size to obtain a loose, attractive lace fabric.
